Question: 30 second female Shakespearean monologue!?
I'm auditioning for Hamlet in my high school and need a 30 second Shakespeare monologue!. My school is a private high school and is VERY competitive in the arts, especially theater!. I know part of it is talent, but a good monologue wouldn't hurt :D I'm 14, female, and would prefer it to be comedic monologue, but if you think drama would be better since it is Hamlet, I can do that too!. Tips on delivery/links are appreciated! Thank you!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Hamlet, act 4, scene 5 -- the scene where Ophelia, just before her suicide and obviously crazy, hands our various flowers and herbs to people in the room, saying what each one represents!. It's a great acting opportunity for a woman!. here's a link:

I will always be partial to Mistress Quickley's speech from Henry V about the passing of Falstaff!. Act II Sc iii that begins "Nay sure he's not in hell"!. Don't neccessarily try to play her age!. She's recounting the realization that Falstaff is just now dead!. She shows how much she cared for him with her beginning admonishment!. Then it allows you to 'say goodbye' to someone whom you've loved very much!. She feels his limbs and they're cold!. "Cold as any stone" is the end of the speech!. It allows you to be a little fiesty and bawdy in the beginning, display your ability to 'tell a story', and reveal genuine emotion in the end!. It can bring soft tears to those who see it if done right!. Quite lovely!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

This website gives you women's monologues from a variety of Shakespearean plays!.

If you want comedy, I would choose something from "As You Like it" or "Much Ado About Nothing!." Tragedy, Macbeth or Othello!. There is a great parody of Othello called "O!." It has Julia Stiles in it!. That could assist you in interpretation!. Good Luck!!!Www@QuestionHome@Com
