Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
All and I mean ALL Broadway shows are performed LIVE minus one little thing!.!.!. backing tracks!. Backing tracks are not used by all shows but they are used by many!. Some, such as Hairspray, play some pre-recorded vocals in the background during larger numbers to beef up the sound!. Other shows, ala Phantom of the Opera, will play a single pre recorded note!. Shows such as Mamma Mia will use backing tracks during transitions!. It is a common practice!.

With all the sound boards, mics, and technology it is easy to assume nowadays you're being duped!. Rest assured though that the voices you are hearing are all live!.!.!. that's the beauty of live theater!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Nope, none of them are!.

Wicked is not lip-synched whatsoever!. I've seen it twice and you can entirely tell the voices of the leads are all slightly different!.

I've never seen Wicked but as far as I know - all musicals are performed LIVE, no lip synching!. Great difference between movie and seeing live show!. I'd hate to see a show that is lip synched!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
