No, They know everyone want the main roles, but they ask if your open to any role because they dont want to waste their time and yours if they cast you in secondary role!. Only to have to recast at last minute cause you decide the role sucks, your upset and upsetting other cast members, and decide to drop outWww@QuestionHome@Com

Theatre etiquette has to do with your dealings and relations with your fellow castmates, director(s) and crew!. There is no breach of etiquette in requesting a larger role!.

Protocol, on the other hand, is a much trickier thing!. You do not wish to appear overreaching or (God forbid) uppity!. Accept a role only if you WANT to do that role, and you can make a positive contribution to the Show!.

You may not want the role offered!. If so, move on!. There are always other Shows!.

As the oft-misconstrued Hamlet quote says: "The play is the thing"!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If they don't want an honest answer, they shouldn't ask! Your time is valuable, too, and you might be choosing between a tiny part in this play, and a lead in another!. I don't think seeming confident is ever a bad move in theater!.

The only thing I would suggest is that you name specific roles, rather than just saying "main cast" or "lead!." That way you are letting them know you're very excited about those particular roles, rather than just sounding like it's the size of the part that matters to you!. Saying yes, you'd do any role, but giving preferences is fair game!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Eek!.!. well!.!.!. it depends on who's directing/casting!.
A director who doesn't know you might think something like "Who does she think she is!?" etc, etc!.
If the director knows you pretty well they'll probably know you don't mean it in a snooty way!
If you don't know the director, don't do that!. especially if you're just starting out!. Because since you aren't saying it to them directly, chances are they will take it the wrong way!. Be as humble as possible when you are starting out!. When you make your big break is when you can start calling some shots!
Break a leg! hope you make it!Www@QuestionHome@Com

no!. you are just telling them your personality!. doesn;t sound rude at all!. this isn't back in the shakespeare days!. if it was it wouldn't sound rude at all!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I would just circle yes if I were you!. It seems more polite!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
