Question: Do you have to be a really good actor/actress with experience for an agent to accept you!?

Experience will never do you any harm (unless you get really badly reviewed in major media), and being really good is usually an advantage!.

Agents have to keep an eye on 'the bottom line' - they have to run offices and have staff, and reputation is very important (put too many inappropriate people up for parts with a casting director, and they won't even think of seeing anyone you put up later for other parts)!.

Have a major success in one role and agents will fight over themselves to form a disorderly queue at your door, probably promising to handle the press who are in that case are also beating a track to your door!.

I got into a nasty contract when I was desperate for an agent just after I left drama school!. I have a great relationship with the agent I have had for the last 15 years ( she understands there are certain jobs I am 'right' for, and spots them - I don't let her down if she puts me up for something )!.

Never pay an upfront fee to someone saying they will represent you without consulting a lawyer!. In fact just saying 'I'll just get my lawyer to look at this' will frighten of most con artists!.

I don't want to sound too negative: being really good does actually help - even if all you are really good at is looking drop-dead gorgeous for the camera!. Lana Turner learned to act - others fell by the wayside!.

Added: Agencies specialising in 'extra' ('super' in the US) work - I think the PC term is 'background artiste' are different!. For them the important thing is that you know how to behave on a shoot and turn up on time!. There it is all on looks, and they want ugly people as often as they want good-looking ones!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

There is no ryhme or reason to this business, casting has baffled far too many to be answered!. The answer in the nut shell is money if they think you can make them money they will accept you but dont let an agent be the end to be all!.

I am a perfect example I am my own best agent!. I audition all the time and I book all the time and i keep the ten or fifteen percentWww@QuestionHome@Com

It is alot about luck and ye being talented is good and helps but some people you see are not good and they have agents as for experience start with extras agencies and you get experience and then you can get bigger roles after not all agencies need experience but it helps and make sure you take acting lessons and work on audition pieces so you are prepared!. Hope that helps!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

barbaros almost has it, but you can't teach someone to act, they have to be born with the gift, so lana turner had the gift and just needed some pointers for film acting!. sometimes an agent will take you on your looks, but they almost always audition you to see if you live up to your resume!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Not necassatily!.!.!.but to get one you have to be in something proffesional!.!.!.NO good agent will take an actor on without having first seen them in something!.!.!.so you have to get a job on your own first!. And THAT'S the hard thing!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
