There are various types of producers on a film or TV show!. To keep it simple we'll just stick with an average film!. An Executive Producer is often the person who secures the financing or in the case of independent films can be the investors themselves!. Usually they are not involved in the day to day operations of the film production itself!.

Producers are the every day bosses or leaders on the production doing all the hiring of crew, negotiating of contracts with cast and crew, negotiating equipment deals from cameras to trucks, catering etc!.

Line Producers work the budget up!. This person literally draws up your budget line by line so that the Producers know exactly what has been allotted for each item from actor and crew salaries, to camera and lab costs!. If a producer makes a deal for something that is beyond the allotted budget it's the line producers job to let him know and the producer will have to adjust accordingly!. This does not always happen but those are the duties of producer and line producer!.

Associate producers are kind of like junior producers and more often than not just glorified assistants to the producers themselves!. The Assoc!. Producer credit is often handed out in lieu of an actual salary raise!.

All in all a producer is the leader of cast and crew on the set!. If there's a problem he or she solves it!. What they do not have any control over is whether or not any individual actor becomes a star!. It is simply not within their control!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
