Question: What song should I audition with for Little Shop of Horrors!?
I want to be Audrey!.
I have a pretty high voice and a big range!.
I can hit high es and can go to low c (one octave below middle!.
I'd like to show off my high voice in the audition, especially since this is my first audition with this group and i want to "make a name for myself" :)
any ideas!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Audrey requires a "pop soprano" voice (as opposed to legit), so sing something that shows that style!. Given the time period, a song from the 50's/60's would be ideal!.

Something from Hairspray (one of the songs that shows a high belt) would be great!. also look at:

My Stongest Suit - Aida
A Change in Me - Beauty and the Beast
Astonishing - Little Women
Gimme Gimme - Thoroughly Modern Millie

Good luck!

DO NOT SING ANYTHING FROM THE SHOW unless it's specifically requested!. If you tank, you won't even get a callback, where they would have potential Audreys sing from the score!.

Secret Love from the movie Calamity Jane has a similar range and style to Somewhere That's Green!.

Part of Your World from The Little Mermaid

Character- and range-wise, Adelaide's Lament from Guys and Dolls!.

Even The Star Spangled Banner will impress the musical director, as it is-- amongst singers and vocal directors-- a notoriously hard song, and I presume you know it!. Plus, you are guaranteed no one else will sing it (before you, anyway)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

i highly recommend you DO NOT sing anything from the show itself!. it is not the best decision!.!. but with your vocal range and longing to show them what you got then i recommend singing
"Somebody To Love" from Ella Enchanted!.
Or
"I'm Not That Girl" from Wicked!.
Or
"Defying Gravity" from Wicked!.
Or
"Popular" from Wicked!.
Or
"Part Of That World" from The Little Mermaid
