Question: Actors: How do you get rid of audition jitters!?
I had an audition today for a small role in a film!. I knew my line, but when I walked in front of the camera I went blank and everything felt mechanical!. How do you relax yourself and focus when all the lights are on you and people are watching!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

A producer I respect told me something very simple but it was very valuable and completely changed my views on auditioning!. The casting director just wants to see you be yourself and see who you really are and how you will act when you get the job!. They don't want this completely perfect flawless actor who clearly won't act how he does in the audition every day on the job!. When you think about this there is no reason to be nervous because it shows that at the audition they want to see your personality so just let it come out!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think we all get the jitters because we think we're supposed to be filling some description but we don't know what it is, and that the people watching the audition are there to judge us against that mystery thing!.

The best advice I ever got about auditioning is to remember that the people you're auditioning for want nothing more than for you to be exactly what they're looking for!. They've had a long day, this project is important, and they're really, really hoping that the next person to come into the room will be perfect!.

So you and the auditors both want the same thing!. That makes it a whole lot easier!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

That's true, the jitters start to go away the more and more auditions you have!. And yes, you definately want to be yourself, don't think about trying to impress them!. It's just one audition too, everyone messes up at least a couple auditions before they start to get it right, I know I did, lol!. I usually try breathing deeply while I'm waiting my turn, you know, find my happy place, not as much trying to quickly cram and remember my lines!. If you have your lines memorized, and the steps, then if you're relaxed and calm, it will just come!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I have to feel prepared in the skill I'm auditioning for!. I hate it when they make you perform the second you get a script and they don't let you read it!. It really messes me up, I had to perform a monologue that I had for an audition that the directors gave me!. It was from Godspell and I didn't know half the words because I'm not a Christian and I ended up stuttering and acting like a fool!. But, it was my first musical audition and I did good (really good)!. It was my first time ever singing and they had me sing Amazing Grace on the higher keys and my voice didn't crack at all!. Yeah, I feel awful before I audition and when I go up there I finally calm down and get in my zone!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

after you have been to a good number of auditions, the jitters start to go away!. you realize that there's no reason to be nervous and that being nervous will only hurt your performance!. you should just go in front of that camera with confidence and a smile and just be yourself!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

you just have to chill!. tell yourself its no big deal!. imagine its your dog/cat/fish that you're doing it in front of!. don't sweat it, directors can see right though you!.
good luck!

Breathe, the people there know you can act really well, and they want to see you preform!. After you've done a number of auditions, the jitters slowly go away!. Trust me on this, I've done a number of auditions for school plays and for an acting agency!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
