Well, my first piece of advice would be to just bite the bullet and get professional headshots, but I know you may not be financially or geographically able to do that!.!.!.so with that said:

Hair: Style your hair how you would normally wear it!. If you have flatter hair; try taking shots where you are looking up into the camera!. also, don't use any fans or blow driers to make you hair blow/seem fuller, it just seems cheesy!.

Make Up: Less is more!. Don't wear eyeliner or a dark eye shadow!. I would suggest a light foundation, subtle blush and mascara!.

Clothing: No black, and no white! also, stay away from gray, tank tops, and anything that shows too much skin!. At the same time, also, don't wear too many layers or clothes that disguise your shape!. I'd suggest a sweater or long sleeve shirt in a bright color that compliments your eyes, so they pop!

Lighting: If outside, you natural lighting!. If inside, no bathroom, ceiling fan or flourescent lighting!.

Tip: Don't put your hands by your face, the hands by the face look is very amateur and unprofessional!.

also, try solid backgrounds, unless you know how to take the background out of focus, don't have abusy background!

and be sure to get some form of an editing program, Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro are great, but your can find cheaper (or even free) ones online as well!. It's worth the investment though, it will come in handy!!!

Have fun!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Don't waste your time!. You will never be able to do it yourselves and make it look half decent, sorry!.

I understand not everybody has a big budget to spend on headshots, but remember it is the single most important investment you'll do for your career!.

You should at the very least check out www!.craigslist!.org for a headshot photographer in your area, if you want to save money!. Many new photographers will do it for peanuts just so they can build their own portfolio!.

Good luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com

The tip for doing your own headshots is to keep it real and natural!. Keep your make-up, hair, and clothing simple so it does not distract from your face!.

The pictures might not be coming out so good because of your camera!. What type of camera are you using!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

When I took my own headshot, I found that a subtle smile looked much better than the big bright one!. I put on light make-up!. I took it in black and white which made it look more professional!. I found that wearing my hair down looked better than putting it up!.Hope this helps!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Try Pro, Get it at your local 24 hour photoWww@QuestionHome@Com

Try to look simple and classy!. Your hair doesn't have to be done up or anything, just down and well groomed is best, and your makeup should be flattering but natural!.!. you dont want to wear too much because thats not the point of a headshot!. A white background might wash you out, so I would suggest trying a different color!.!.!. I see a lot of grey, or sort of a marbled grey (as seen here: http://www!.kochanowicz!.com/Acting/Headsh!.!.!.
As for lighting, here is what we did for my high school theater!. Take the picture in a room that is well lit by sunlight!. If you can find another person to help you, get a tin cookie sheet and a lamp!. Position the lamp so the beam covers your whole face!. From the opposite side, have one of your helpers reflect the light back on to your face in a way that makes fewer shadows!. Here is a sample of a headshot of a girl from my high school that was taken using this method: http://tinypic!.com/view!.php!?pic=9jgk1d&s!.!.!. (just as a note, this is a "blooper" headshot, not a serious one haha)
It looks very quality for being taken with household items, so hopefully you can take a more professional looking shot using some of these methods!. Good luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com
