Improvisation can't really be rehearsed, it is something i am good at, although i don't particularly enjoy being put under the pressure of having to perform, without previous information!. I plan my improvisation as best as i believe one can!. Create a variety of characters, and LEARN them!.!.!.KNOW each character inside & out!. Then, when given a scenario, pick the character that is best suited for the situation, if you have trouble deciding, go by what you are auditioning for or by the situation !.!.!. think about what kind of people would be in that situation!.

Example!.!.!.

Scenario: You are in your front garden, as is your next door neighbour!. You find your neighbour irritating, but they insiste on talking to you!.

You can make ANYTHING out of this!.

First off, pick your character!. Think of these things to help decided !.!.!.!. why does my character dislike their neighbour!?, does their neighbour dislike them back!? What excuses, if any, is your character going to make to avoid the situation!? Where are you living!? is it classy, or a bit rough!? Time of day!? Weather!?

Have a think about it!.!.!.its pretty easy providing you KNOW your characters!.
You will also learn, as you improvise more often, that you can turn almost ANY situation into ANY genre!.

Give it a go!.!.!.!.hope i've helped :-)

"IMPROV" minus the "E" suggests more than one, in the best sense!.

Certainly improvisation is often a singular experience, but at the very least PRACTICE might be done in front of some audience!.

The concept, while similar to STAND UP, is closer in design to being spontaneous, even involving and interacting with another, or troupe, and with an audience GETTING IT!.

Usually there is a scenario, a SET UP, which allows playing off of that to create a performance!.

I guess what I'm MOST curious about, is WHY you're going to audition,,, no offense!. But most especially, if you're unfamiliar with the concept, even in a general sense!. IMPROV cannot be strictly rehearsed!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Do you have any improv training!? If so, you should be familiar with a number of styles and exercises!. (If not, why are you auditioning!?)

That being said!.!.!.you could just improvise some monologues on your own!. Grab yourself a topic or a word or a phrase, then begin!.

If you have a friend to work with, set up a simple scenario (eating in a restaurant, coming home after a date, etc!.), then begin a scene!.

Here's my main advice: Don't try to be funny; you won't be!. Don't try to be original; you won't be!. Make choices that are obvious to you, and they will seem original to others!.

Focus on making your partner look good!. Take your time and trust your instincts!.

Of course, if this is an audition for a group whose main focus is "finding the funny," all bets are off!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
