Question: How do actors in plays such as 'Equus' not get erections!?

I was just thinking about it!.!.!.!.I went to see the play with Alfie Allen in!.!.!.but how do they not get erections in the sex scene with the girl Jill!? and what would happen if they did!?

If you're doing an intimate scene onstage, you're playing a part, your "part" isn't playing you!.
You've rehearsed the scene, the blocking, the action, the dialog, over and over and over, in front of the director and a good part of the cast and crew for weeks, sometimes having to repeat parts of the action over and over to get the lighting or effects right!. Your partner in the scene will be concentrating on what they have to do, and will not be trying to turn you on!. Trying to remember all you have to convey in the scene will be more than enough to channel your energy into the art of your acting!. Not to mention that you'll be pretending intimacy under hot, dazzling lights in front of an audience of likely over a hundred, sometimes nearly a thousand spectators!. That's usually enough to wilt even the most horny of performers!.
And keep in mind that nude scenes are almost always performed by actors mature enough to not be bothered with having unexpected erections!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

haha I've asked some of my male actor friends this out of curiosity (for nude and non nude love scenes)!. The thing is, when you're onstage, despite being in the moment and all that, you're still aware you're onstage!. It's not the same thing at all as being in the situation for real!. Plus, you might not even be attracted to the person you have the scene with!.
I have always found love scenes both onscreen and onstage to be the most unromantic things ever!. It is truly acting!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I asked this question to my friends just last week!. And the answer they came up with is they probably do, but no-one cares!.!.

And to those who say that it just woun't happen, Will Smith, when filming iRobot, had to do a shower scene!. It's a bit like tv in a way!. Because there are so many people watching, and the nature of the environment (all pre-planned, theatrical lighting etc), it's not particularly sexy!. This would mean it's difficult to shut all of that out and turn it into a sexual situation!.

I've had to do scenes *fully-clothed though!* that were sexual with lots of bodily contact, and I had always wondered this, too!. But there is nothing at all arousing about doing this sort of thing as a performance in this environment/context!
