Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
A couple of answerers are basing their judgments of Frair Lawrence and the Nurse as being good parents becasue they help Romeo and Juliet do what they want to do!. But look what winds up happening!. The parents may have been asking their kids to do something that they didn't want to do, but if the kids had gone along with it, they'd probably have survived their teens!. Parents often have to ask or tell their kids to do things that the kids don't want to do!. Kids need to start realizing that the parents may indeed have the kids' bext interests at heart!.

Put it in a more modern context:

Your parents insist that you eat everything on your plate before you get dessert because it's good for you to eat your vegetables, meat, etc!. Grandparents are the ones who spoil their grandkids and let them eat ice cream and cake!. Now, which is actually better for the kid!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'd go with the third question!. There's lots of evidence in the play that supports the notion that Friar Lawrence and the Nurse are stronger parental figures than their actual parents!. The friar and the nurse both listen to what the kids have to say, give them sage advice, and don't threaten them if they don't obey (Lord Capulet threatens Juliet if she does not marry Paris)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

i like number 3!. when i was studying R&J, this was never a theme, but it's such an interesting realty, not only for the play, but for the time period in general!. people in that level of society largely gave up their obligation to their children and hired others to do the work for them!. one could say this contributed to juliet, especially, when she makes the choices to follow her heart instead of her parents wishes!.

and i don't get the journal!. you're wrinting TO juliet explaining strategies!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

i personally would do the first one but its up to u!. hope this helps!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
