Question: Tips on persuading PARENTS to get an AGENT!?!?!?!?
I am an aspiring actress and would really like to get an agent so that I can get my career rolling and get some experience!. However, as I am still young it is very hard for me to get an agent and I would of course need parental consent!. How can I persuade my parents to let me get an agent!?!?
I want this more than anything, acting is my life and I just want the chance to go to auditions and try my luck really, and we also need the extra money but that is irregardless!. So does anybody have any tips or ideas as to how I can persuade my parents to let me get or at least search for an agent!?

This can be anything from how to discuss the topic of agents and drama schools etc, to getting an agent!. ANYTHING THAT MIGHT HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED!!!!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

First, I would take a good look at your skills and ability!. When you say acting is your life, I am curious what experience you have (and so would a prospective agent)!.

If you are serious about entertainment as a career (I was a pro musician for many years) you NEED a capable representative to manage your career - even for small time talent!. A professional agent has connections, and connections get work!.

Anyway !.!.!. if you are looking for money, acting is not a short term solution to that situation!. Most actors are low paid or work very infrequently!. Your expenses (travel to auditions, parents taking the day off to get you there, etc!. will likely out weight any paychecks that you will get in the beginning!.

If you are serious about entertainment, at the VERY LEAST, you need to be in a major city - at best in NY or LA!. For example, if you live in Montana, there is not really any work there, and real agents are not there either!.

When you are able, and if you are serious and committed, moving to NY or LA is your best first step to getting started!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The best way to get an agent would be to write down finances and costs, then write down logical resons why you may need one!. (Typing this down will make it look official)!.

also don't whine to them about it and expect them to get you one!. Maybe split the costs you pay half, and your parents pay the other!. But If you show then you are responsible enough, they may just fall into the idea!. Good Luck!. <3 SophieWww@QuestionHome@Com

With no offense to you at all, and realizing that the majority who come here are young,,,some VERY young, I am baffled by the AGENT issue, always!.

I also hope to have one of you define ASPIRING, one of these days!.

I am not at all a fan of agents, though I'll ASSUME, some are better than Used Car Salesmen,,,No offense to them either, but wouldn't the logical first steps be, to have talent, even modest experience, education in the craft, and assume that an Agent is in business to profit from you, but if YOU aren't a viable commodity, no agent in the world will make any percentage from trying to find you work!?

My opinion, since you asked, is that an AGENT is best hired AFTER one no longer truly needs one!. The craft is NOT a training as you go situation, most especially when $$$ happen to be part of the mix!. Certainly there are schools, classes, methods of acquiring education and skill levels in many venues and genres!. To get to a point where you might be one an agent considers, you probably should have some level of education, directed at the craft, some experiences to put on a resume, some valid form of credentials, that not only appeal to and agent, but to whomever he "MIGHT" bother promoting you to!. Again, no offense to you, or even to agents, but 10% of ZERO, isn't much of a Jingle in ones pocket!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
