Question: College Class Recommends Seeing A Theatre Production!?
I was just looking through a course catalogue, trying to decide which classes I'm going to take through our local community college for my first year!. I am doing my entire first year online (I should actually be a senior in High School this year, but I'm taking all college courses this year for dual credit to get an early start)!. I am a huge fan of theatre, and although it's not what I'm looking at going into (although I'd LOVE to!), I thought it might be fun to take it, since you have to take so many electives anyway!. So I read the course description, and at the end it says that it recommends you see a production!. Does this mean a REAL broadway tour!? Or just a performance put on by the college!? And also, do they buy you the ticket, or do you have to buy it!?!?!? Any help on this would be great!!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I taught Community College level theater for a year for some extra money!. The classes I taught pretty much had the same description, so I think it's same to assume it'll be run at least close to the same way!.

Q: Does this mean a REAL broadway tour!? Or just a performance put on by the college!?

A: I really can't imagine any community college requiring students to see a broadway tour!. I'm 95% sure this is to see any stage performance!. Some of my students even went to see them at their old high schools!. At my college, the students were required, meaning a part (10%) of their grade, to see 3 shows!. Coincidently the college was putting on 3 of its own productions (performed by students) that semester!. We also had professional groups coming through!. It also said "recommends you see a production"!.

Q: Do they buy you the ticket, or do you have to buy it!?

A: The college will definitely not buy you the tickets, even if it's required to go see as part of the grade!. Definitely plan on paying for your own ticket!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If it recommends that you see it, then I doubt they'd be paying for the ticket!.!.!. I'm sure they'd accept you seeing a local preformance because they can't force you to spend money on a Broadway play, much less getting to it!. I think you should take the class, even if you don't plan on doing that with your life!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

When I taught such classes, my students had to buy their tickets, and I usually gave them a list of shows to see or required that they all see a certain one so we could all share info about it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
