I'm glad to hear that you're not just doing it to get famous and that you're in a class of some sort!. It sounds like you've got your head on straight and are approaching this with a realistic mindset!. With all the "How do I get on the Disney Channel and become an overnight superstar!?" questions that litter Yahoo Answers, it's refreshing to read!.

The #1 best thing you can do is go to college and study your craft in-depth!. You'll learn even more than you will taking classes independently, and having a performing arts degree is a great line on any actor's resume!.

The #2 thing you can do is to take every legit opportunity you can get to get onstage or in front of a camera!. If that means performing bad dialogue in a hack play to dismally small crowds, running through the woods in a student-made slasher flick, or whatever, then so be it!. Work is work, and fresh young talent doesn't have the right to be choosy!. Treat every job like it's THE role that will make your career take off, because you never know who will see it!.

The 3rd thing you'll need to do is always be prepared to network!. Always have a few copies of your headshot and resume on you!. Give them out like candy to anyone, especially if they have ANY ties to the entertainment industry, no matter how distant!. The more people there are in the world with your info, the more likely it is to land in the hands of someone who's casting a role you'd be perfect for!.

#4 is find an agent!. You'll need a few decent jobs under your belt before any agent worth their salt will agree to represent you, but once you have one they'll be able to cut down on the networking legwork you need to do to find jobs!. Once you have someone representing you, make sure you stay in regular contact with them, lest they allow other, more persistent clients to occupy their time when they could be pitching YOU to casting directors!. (Of course, this doesn't mean you should rely on them solely to find work!. You'll still need to do plenty of legwork to find auditions; an agent simply helps you cast a bigger net in your hunt!.)

And finally, be prepared to be rejected a lot, no matter how great you are!. There simply aren't enough jobs in the world for everyone to get every role they deserve!. Just remember that the people casting any production, no matter how evil they seem, are just people trying to do their jobs, and even at their most callously blunt moments almost never intend to hurt the feelings of people auditioning!. Never get too emotionally invested in a project you haven't been officially signed to yet, no matter how "in the bag" it seems to be!. Remember, entertainment is an industry, talent is common, and there will ALWAYS be more auditions!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
