In a musical, characters sing when speaking isn't enough to express their feelings!. So, you need to portray enough emotion to justify singing the song you've chosen!. That doesn't mean exaggeration, though!. A good definition of acting is: "living truthfully in imaginary circumstances!." So, know the circumstances of the character you're playing and why she sings the sad song!. Then remember that for the duration of the audition, you are the character!. Behave as you would behave in those imaginary circumstances!. Imagine as much as you need to (What happened to you just before the scene starts!? What do you want now!?) so you can really believe what you're doing!. Then just do it!. Be yourself in these imaginary circumstances!. If you believe it, your audience will, too!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It depends on the show!. If it is a show where exaggeration is called for, which is something you have to decide on your own, you should probably exaggerate!. Since you are singing a sad-ish song, though, I am guessing that its not really that type of show!. In that case, you should just try to keep it real and logical!. Find a circumstance from your own life that you can relate to the song you are singing, and channel the emotions from your real life situation into the song!. By doing this, you can bring raw, true emotion into a song, making it seem more down to earth and relateable to the audience!. In this sense, it is not much different from acting in a play unless the show calls for an exaggerated type of acting!. Hope this helped, good luck at your audition!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Don't exaggerate anything!. Be as real as you can possibly be!. Acting isn't blowing things out of proportion!. It's getting so involved in the what's going on that it feels real to you!. Think about how you used to get totally invested in make-believe when you were little!. The rest of the world disappeared, and all the existed was the world you created!. That's what acting is about - making it real!.

Put yourself in the situation, and act the way you normally would!. Either you're what the director's looking for or you're not, but making it real is the way to go!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
