Eponine needs to be able to belt - On My Own is a mezzo song with a big belted section!. Cosette (the older Cosette, you're too old for the young Cosette) has to have a beautiful lyric soprano and be able to hit a top C (2 octaves above middle C) cleanly and beautifully every night! Fantine is an alto/mezzo role which requires a bit of belting but not as much as 'Ponine!. Madame Thenadier is a character role; she doesn't have to belt but needs a strong alto, and she sings fairly low!. If you're a belter, go for Eponine, if not, I'd suggest Madame Thenadier as you really do have to be a true soprano to sing Cosette!. Plus I've always thought that Cosette is a boring character, even if she does get the guy!Www@QuestionHome@Com
