Question: I'm stuck between two songs for my Once Upon a Mattress audition!?
I'm a 17 year old girl!. with a mezzo/Soprano range and I am auditioning for Once Upon a Mattress!. There are two songs that I am looking at "Stars and Moon" from Songs for a New World and "Home" from Phantom by Maury Yeston!.
If anyone has an idea for me that would be a huge help!.
Oh and i'm not auditioning for any specific part if that helps at all!.
Thanks!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Home would be appropriate if you were auditioning for Lady Larkin!.

I like Stars and Moon, but to be honest, I don't think it's the greatest audition song because it doesn't really show off your voice!.

Once Upon a Mattress is a silly, fun show!. If you're going for Winnifred, I would choose something a bit brassier!. Maybe I Hate Men from Kiss Me, Kate!?

The problem with not having anyone specific in mind when your auditioning for a show that has 2 ver different female parts is that it's impossible to find a song that shows off the strengths of both!. If you go for the brassiness of Winnifred, you lose the sweetness of Larkin and vice versa!.

So, I always recommend zeroing in on the character you'd be better at (everyone is ALWAYS more suited to a particular type of character - could you see Carol Burnett playing Larkin!?)!. So, figure out what that is for you and go for it!.

Now, if you're just going for ensemble, than it really doesn't matter and you can sing whatever you want!. But who auditions with the goal of just being in the ensemble!? Pick a part and commit to it 100%!

Check out the Narrator's songs from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat too!.

Good luck!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Stars and the Moon is a great song because it allows you to show your story-telling and acting talent as well as your beautiful voice!. I would go with that one!. It is such a good song! And since it's a bit meatier, it could get you Winnifred!. Break a leg!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I like the song "Stars and Moon"
Since you are a mezzo/soprano (I am soprano, too!) It would probably be a better choice to sing this song! ?Www@QuestionHome@Com
