Question: Why is the Phantom of the Opera's face so horribly scarred!?
I've heard multiple reasons, like he was burned or he was born that way, etc!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Don't believe that burned mess!. Erik wasn't burned!. In Down Once More he says "This face, which earned a mother's fear and loathing" If he was burned as a child wouldn't his mother be a little more sympathetic!? He was born (in the musical) with a deformed face!. In the book he was born with a rare skin disease that Joseph Buquet described in the musical "Like yellow parchment is his skin !.!.!. A great black hole served as the nose that never grew"

The book is really good!. It's set up like a mystery that you're trying to solve and you learn alot about the Phantom like that his real name is Erik!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Book - burned
Musical/Movie - born that way
(Lloyd Webber changed it because he wanted to make the Phantom a character you can feel sorry for, not a freaky ghost like portrayed in the book)Www@QuestionHome@Com
