Question: I'm auditioning for "The Wizard of Oz" and need help choosing a song!?
So I need help choosing an auditioning song!.!.!. If you can, make a list of all the songs from "The Wizard of Oz" and then if you could find songs by the same songwriter that are the same style!. Or if there are any similiar ones that would work!. I'm thinking about singing "Reflection" from Mulan!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Which version of The Wizard of Oz" is it!? There are two, the MUNY (much closer to the book) and the RSC (almost identical to the film)!. I only ask because the songs are slightly different between the two versions!. Have a look at www!.tams-witmark!.com for the two synopses and song lists!.

It's a good idea to not sing a song from the show unless specifically asked, and even if you are asked, don't do Over the Rainbow because everybody will do that one!. To be clever, if it's the RSC version you're doing, you could try singing "Evening Star" which is only in the MUNY version of the show, where Dorothy sings it - so the range will be perfect!. If you're doing the MUNY version and they don't want a song from the show then it's not such a good plan! A "classic" musical theatre song is probably your best bet - something by Rogers and Hammerstein would be a good option, look possibly at one of Laurey's songs from Oklahoma! like "Out of My Dreams" or "People Will Say We're In Love" (get the National Theatre film version and watch it, Josefina Gabrielle turns in a stunning performance as Laurey); one of Nellie's songs from South Pacific; one of Kathy's songs from Singin' In The Rain like "All I Do Is Dream Of You" or "You Are My Lucky Star" (there's a solo version of that on the special edition DVD, it's a duet in the actual film) could work well as well!. Stay with the "classic" musical theatre - no Wicked, Hairspray, Grease, Legally Blonde, Spring Awakening or Andrew Lloyd Webber!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Please, anything but Over the Rainbow!. Everyone will do that one!. There are numerous other ballads and musical theatre songs to show your range!.

Some good musicals- Pippin, Working, Annie, Godspell!.

Try to pick something that will be just a little different from everyone else!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yea, "Reflection" is good!. If you want to do one from "The Wizard of Oz" then definately go with "Over the Rainbow" because it will really show your range!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
