Question: How much chance do i have of becoming an actress!?
I adore acting, I really do!. It's the only thing I can see my self doing in the future!. The only problem is, unless you become famous, you can't really make a proper living out of it!. I am taking LAMDA acting lessons and I do performances at a local theatre and I am part of a youth theatre acting group!. I am also taking drama at GCSE and predicted to get an A, and hope to take it at A level too!. Is there an even chance of being able to 'make it' as an actress if you leave school after A levels, go to an acting school like for example the guildford school of acting, OR if after you do your A levels go to University and study drama there then start going for auditions for TV shows and films!. Do you get more chances of auditions in drama school or studying drama at Uni!?!?
Are the chances of making it the same!?
Honest opinions and any other tips would be most welcome :)
ThanksWww@QuestionHome@Com

It all depends on what you mean by "proper living," and what kind of acting you want to do!. Being an actress is not the impossible dream that so many people would have you believe! I am a working actress myself, and though I'm not wealthy or famous, I'm not starving and living in a cardboard box either!

Being an actress is HARD work and LONG hours!. You don't get evenings, weekends or holidays off to spend with friends and family!. But, if it's all you can think of doing, GO FOR IT!!!

Definitely study, study, study!.!.!.whether it is at a professional acting school or a university drama program, never stop learning your craft!. You always have room to grow and can always get better!.

Besides making you a better actress, going to school helps you focus your interests!.!.!.acting is a pretty broad field - be it film or live theatre, contemporary or classical, comedic or dramatic, improvised or scripted - and each genre demands its own unique skill sets!. It's up to you to sort through it all and discover where your talent lies!.

Be aware that there is truth to the myth that "it's all about who you know" - but don't despair! That is just another reason to keep studying! Most acting and drama teachers are professionals themselves, who know other professionals, who know other professionals!.!.!. Actually, my most recent job came because the director of the new show had the same acting teacher as the teacher that wrote my reference!

It is also good to study things outside of "acting!." Any extra skills you can add to your resume are good! For example, singing, playing an instrument, rollerskating, playing basketball, dancing, karate, swimming, horseback riding, skateboarding, fencing, gymnastics or even the ability to tie a cherry stem into a knot with your tounge are all skills that may end up getting you the job over someone else!. Time is always limited, and anything that you can bring to the audition table is going to benefit you!Www@QuestionHome@Com
