Question: Has anyone read the play "antigone"!?
Please help me answer this question!.!.!.!.!.!. Compare and contrast the relationship between Antigone and Ismene, especially how Ismene was a foil to Antigone!. ThanksWww@QuestionHome@Com

Antigone was everything Isemene was not; daring, compassionate about her cause, and determined to fullfil justice their brother!. Ismene, on the other hand, was in a way contempt with the way things were, did not believe they were capable enough to do anythng, and feared consquences of underminding authority!.

Antigone also in the mindset of martydom, she took joy in the thought of giving up her life for her cause ,as was seen when she hung herself willing in the cave(when she could've been rescued), and was determined to die herocically somehow!. Ismene valued her life and did not want to risk losing it!.

As I conclude, the obvious differences in Ismene and Antigone clearly show how Ismene, diligent and complaent, is the foil to Antigone, rash, outspoken, and not afraid to question authority!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Comparing is easy!. They're sisters with the same father and mother!. They are also half sisters to their father Oedipus!. Both mourn their father and to a degree, they both disagree with the new king and his edicts!. Contrasting is not so terribly difficult either!. Antigone wants to defy the order to let her brother rot!. She breaks the law and takes care of her brother!. Ismene on the other hand is afraid of any punishment she might receive and does nothing to help Antigone!.

It's a short, easily read play!. Go through it and you'll find a whole lot more, and it won't be difficult at all!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
