Question: Can you greet the director if you are an extra!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
It depends on the production and who the director is!. Some directors like interaction!. Others just want to be left alone!. Check with the 2nd AD or 1st PA and they will be able to tell you wether it would be a good idea or not!. It really depends on who it is!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Noooo, of course not, what makes you think you can do that!? Have you ever worked on a film!? In New York Extras do not speak to, or, greet a Director, unless he or she speaks to you!.

Directors do not want to know you, and they do not want you talking to them!. They are there to make a film not talk to EXTRAS!.

It could be the last time you work on a film with that director or, any director, if it gets back to the Casting Office that you were talking to the Director!.

If the Director wants to talk to you, he/she will approach you!. keep your mouth shut, and do what you are told!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think you should gauge the situation carefully!. The director has a lot on his/her mind and is juggling 500 elements at once!. Even in a moment of silence, they are probably thinking about solving a problem in the scene!.

You should do what they tell you to do, smile and say "Hi" if you encounter the director but don't make a production of it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'd say follow the "Don't speak unless you are spoken to" rule!.

Sets are usually high-pressure places, and I doubt he wants to be sidetracked from his work just to talk to an extra!. Even if he's off drinking some coffee, chances are he wants a break and doesn't want to be bothered!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

WHY NOT!?!? I DUNT STAND ON FORM,ALITIES, HONEY!.!.!.AND WAS HAPPILY EMPLOYED ON THE SET MOST OF MINE LIFE!.!.!.!.I HAD CARTE BLANCH AT PARAMOUNT IN THE 80S!.!.!.!.I KNOW THE ROPES!.!.!.!.YOU GOTTA RISK IT!.!.!.!.ACT LIKE NOBODY UND THEY LL TREAT YOU THAT WAY!.!.!.

HOW DARE ANYONE TELL YA YO KNOW YOUR PLACE!

STEP UP TO HIM UND SAY!.!.!.GOOD DAY SIR

AT LEAST YULL DIE WITH A SMILE ON YA FACE SOME DAYWww@QuestionHome@Com

Depends on the director!. Some arrogant SOB's will object if anyone speaks to them without permission; most directors are normal, sane human beings who don't mind a good morning from anyone they're working with!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

im not a expert on this but i say go for it if ge doesnt like it then say srry but if he working with you i think it would be polite you could say thanks for being a great dirrector and stuff like thatWww@QuestionHome@Com

Despite the thumbs down she received, New York Gal gave you the correct answer!.

Extras are background, and should remain there!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I don't see why not!. I mean, you shouldn't go way out of your way to say hi, but if your right next to him It wouldn't be polite to just ignore him!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

WHY NOT !. I'M SURE HE /SHE WOULD LIKE IT !.Www@QuestionHome@Com
