Question: Would you walk out of a play for this!?
I wrote a good play with myself as the female lead and gave it to the local play house to perform!. I had to audtion like everyone else of course but then I wasn't chosen! I was like what!? I mean I know Emily (the lead character) better then anyone else since I made her so I should play her! Instead I got some bit role that is just one scene!. I was pretty angry during rehearsal today and refused to even read my lines!. I'm starting to take my play and walk out, which is something I was given the option of doing!. Should I!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Maybe you were specifically not cast as the lead so that the director would not be accused of favoritism!. Or maybe they were just going by raw talent and they saw something in the girl they cast as Emily that they didn't see in you!. Director's minds are a strange and scary place!.!.!. :)
Can you imagine the morale and thoughts of the rest of the cast if you WERE cast as Emily!? "She's only playing that part because she wrote it" It's so unfair" "My friend did better than her at the audition, it's only because she wrote it"!.
So maybe the director thought it would be better this way, for you really!. If you do well in your part and work hard and everyone sees you with a good attitude, when you DO have a lead role, everyone will know you deserved it!. I say, stick with it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Why should you expect to play the lead role just because you wrote the play!? You may know the character good, but what if someone is just better at acting than you!? It's your choice, but you should examine your motives!. Is your motive to write a good play, or is your motive to write a play so you can play lead!? If you feel that you deserve a better role, and can play that role well, then walk out!. I would be happy that they used my play in the first place!. I would decline the role, and just watch the play and be happy that I wrote it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I can't fully answer this because I haven't seen your acting!. I can say, if you really are a good actress and want to star in your own play, you should really first copywright your work (if you haven't done so already), and then have the theatre company sign a contract that agrees you hold all rights to decide casting in your play, specifically the role of Emily!. There's nothing wrong with casting yourself in the lead!.!.!. that is, as long as you're good!. Nowaday's artists really have to market themselves and not count on agents, managers and auditions to get us ahead!. I wish you the best of luck in whatever path you follow!Www@QuestionHome@Com

You wrote the play so you have one vision of it, however the director has another one!. Each piece of work is interpreted differently by different people!. Whether you walk out or not and take your play with you depends on your goal with this play!. Do you want it to be made!? This may be your only chance!.

Yes, you got a small role according to you but the role is still important or you would not have written it into the play!. "There are no small roles just small actors"!.

Ultimately, it is your choice just try and do what is best for your piece of work!.

Best of luckWww@QuestionHome@Com

Not everything will always work the way you want it to!. This seems like a good opportunity for you!. Even if you arent the lead, you wrote the play and its a big deal that its being put on! You should feel honored and proud of yourself :) This can be a very good learning experience, and meanwhile you could be the best at whatever role you are playing!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Up to you, but you will never have another play done or be in a play at that theatre!. No one likes unprofessional behaviour and egotism is the worst!. You may know the character well, but not have the ability to play her well!. YOu should apologize to all and be happy they want to do the play and work to make it as good as possible!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No, I don't think you should!. While I know you feel your play is your baby and you know the part better than anyone else, you may not be the better actress!. If you wrote the play merely as a vehicle to get yourself seen, then by all means walk out with it!. But if you want to become known as a playwrite, suck it up!. Your play is being produced!!! This is a good thing!!!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

That would make me feel awful!!!! :( But!.!.!.!.!.if you walk out, it will make you look like a poor sport!. Maybe next time before you audition, don't be too sure of yourself(not that you were)!. Just really try to make you part of the play the best you can make it!. Good Luck!!!! And I'm sorry you didn't get the part you wanted!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No don't walk away!. Let one of your talents be known!. It will make you a better person!. You will have other chances to show your stuff!. In reality you are still showing your stuff, it's your play!. Make it fun, not stressful for you and your fellow actors & actresses!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

yeah, that is totally unfair! But, maybe your acting isn't good enough, sorry to be so blunt!. Maybe instead of throwing a fit about it you could coach the girl who got the lead!. That would be more professional of you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You could be a gifted screen writer!. I would be honored that they wanted to use something that I created!.
You need to decide what you want to do, write, or act!.
It sounds to me like you are a much better writer!Www@QuestionHome@Com

no!. you are so lucky the play house is performing it!.!.just go with it, swallow your pride and play the role!. hey, you are the playwright!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I agree with crjesq!. The auditioning director might have seen another actress show a different side to Emily, one that you might not have thought of before!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, I'd just be honored that they chose to produce my play!. Remember, Michael Jordan played basketball and baseball, but which is he remembered for!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Remember you may always not be fit for the acting!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If you're going to hold a grudge about it -yes walk out!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

hey! u shouldn't walk out!.!.(i guess)!.!.it's just a matter of perspective!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
