Question: Can You Separate Pinter or Miller from Being Jews!?
A Masterclass at the Lyric Hammersmith forbade us to interpose Harold Pinter`s philosophy into the context of the play for purposes of analysis and/or discussion!.

Imposing his own interpretation on the play the director told us that we should take all the characters with a grain and that Goldberg and another should be taken lightest of all!.

So how important is it to know what`s in Pinter`s mind and what the subtext is according to Pinter!.

It makes me laugh to hear people taking about Miller and saying that the characters don`t have to be` Jewish` but just happen to be!.

No!. Those characters are Jews during the height of the McCarthy era in America and are victimized by antiSemitism from beginning to end!.

The unions don`t want them!. They`re for the Irish and Italians, latterly the Blacks and hispanics!. The guy is made to be a salesman, self-employed, hustling until he dies from exhaustion and medical neglect!.

The play is an indictiment of America`s treatment of Jews!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Who was conducting the Masterclass !? No names!.
Their ideas seem to be going round in circles and will very shortly vanish in a Northward direction anatomically speaking!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
