Question: How long will it take me to learnthe Cello!?

I can play the piano, and double bass!. I've played the double bass for 4 years and can play it pretty fluently!. I do not have the money to have a teacher, so I will try tp teach myself; 1 hour every weekday!. About how long is it going to take me untill I gat good enough to play Prelude Suite 1 !?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Your music experience will help you greatly!. But, here's the catch!. String technique varies between instruments, even between violin and viola!. Bass and cello technique are very different on the finer points!. You teach yourself and your risking very very bad habits!. The kind of habits where you could physically hurt yourself!.

That said, if you practice your scales, arpeggios, thirds, sixths and octaves, you could probably learn it in 6 months!. Bach's first prelude is deceptively simple!. The string crossings are killer as well as intonation!. See if you can't find another cellist to help you out, maybe one in your year or in orchestra or whatever!. A little guidance goes a long way!.

If you play double bass i reckon you could pick it up pretty quickly!.

At 1hr a day you should be up to standard in a couple of months i would expect!.

Depends on whether you want to play from memmory or sight reading!.
