Aside from having something to put on stage, as you said, it is important to the playwrights!. It gives them a way to expressed themselves creatively - it's cathartic you might say!. These artists, at most times, give us a better understanding, a different perspective of humanity!. We sometimes see ourselves or how we want to see ourselves from their playwritings!. At times, it touches our emotions and well being!. What would we watched then without it - organized chaos, or what you call improvisations!.
