The play was adapted from a book by Susan Hill!. Researching her might be a good start!.
The stage play is set at the same time as the book is!. It would be quite easy to set it in another time period, such as the modern day, however you need to think whether this would have the same effect on the audience!. Im not sure about political context though!. As far as I can see, there is nothing!. !. !. I always struggle with the s/h/p context question too!. its proper rubbish!. I always find it easiest to concentrate on ideas for setting it in different time periods, and talking about how audiences would react- this can cover both social and historical contexts!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
