Question: Smaller films!?
ok so i know how to submit into agencies and all but from what i've been hearing is that you need to be in indie films and stuff to get into an agency!. so how do you get into these without the agency or agent!? i'm utterly stumped on what to do since my mum is way to skeptical w/ the online things!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Your mom is right to be skeptical, but there legit sites online!. Backstage!.com and Actorsaccess!.com are the most legit sites out there!. LAcasting is also legit but a bit more commercial and it can be way more pricey!. There also legit calls on Now Casting but sometimes the calls are just repeated so I'd start with the first 2!. Actorsaccess is free to start an account but since you are obviously under age, please have your parents do this with you!. Do not put your home number or address!. Uploada headshot and reusme but use your mom's cell phone so all audition appointments are made through her!. You resume should also not have a home address or phone number, you'r mom's cell will suffice!. She does need to understand that answering the phone or calling back right away is imperative or they will move on to someone else! Anyhow, AA comes from the people at Breakdown Services which is where all legit agents get their audition notices!. This is just the public version therefore it has 'lesser' auditions and a handful of ads!. Backstage is from the old Dramalogue and has been an industry standard for years!. These two are as legit as you can get!. On AA it costs $2!.00 to submit electronically but I can tell you it will cost $2!.00 to mail it so why bother!? Just do that OR if you're finding that there are a lot of auditions for you, ask them to subscribe to Showfax for $68 per year!. It gives you unlimited submissions on AA for that year!. Showfax is a sides service, basically you get access to script pages you may need for auditions!. On backstage, you can search for free however you won't be able to see all the info unless you subscribe, In some cases you can see enough in the free info to web search and find out the rest on your own!. Again, if there's a lot in your area you'd be better off subscribing but if not at least you searched for free and you're none the worse off for it!.

Another way to find student and indie films - if you're not in a larger market area, do a web search for your state name and the word film (example - Kentucky film) That will bring up websites that have your states film associations, commisions, etc!. Those sites may have info on productions casting locally!. Look under jobs, auditions, etc!.

You can also contact local colleges that have film departments and ask how their students cast their films!. Get in on that!. Look in the Entertainment section of your local papers for Live Theatre listings then check out the websites for the theatres you see listed!. You should be in classes and have some theatre credits on your resume!. If you don't, these places will be where you get that!.

good luck,
