Question: Memorize shakespear =\!?
tomorrow i have a test on a section of shakespear and ihave to memorize it!. is there any tips on memorizing anything (doesnt have to be specific to shakespear)

"Why came I hither but to that intent!?
Think you a little din can daunt mine ears!?
Have I not in my time hear lions roar!?
Have I not heard the sea, puffed up with winds,
Rage like an angry boar chafed with sweat!?
Have I not heard great ordinance in the field,
and eaven's artillery thunder in the skies!?
Have I not in a pitched battle heard
Loud alarms, neighing steeds, and trumpets' clang!?
And do you tell me of a womans tongue
That gives not half so great a blow to hear
As will a chestnut in a farmers fire
Tush, tush fear boys with bugs

i have the last line memorized for ever btw, and i know the first 4ish lines pretty well!.

thanks!Www@QuestionHome@Com

What I did to memorize a 30 line piece from shakespear was to memorize the first line, then the second, then the third and so on!. BUT the catch was, every time I memorized a new line, I would recite it from the beginning to that point!.

So for example:

If I just memorized the second line "Think you a little din can daunt mine ears!?"
I would then start from the beginning and go:
"Why came I hither but to that intent!?
Think you a little din can daunt mine ears!?

Then I would go to the third line and repeat this process!.!.!. over and over and over!. Its basically a lot of repetition but it works really well for me!.

Good luck though with your test/memorizing,

I usually just write and/or read the whole thing out over and over until I know it!. I've memorized quite a few monologues and poems that way!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Here's what helps me:

-translate it into 'modern english' so that you get the gist of what you're saying in case you get off track!.
-Get someone to sit with you and read along as you speak so you won't be tempted to cheat off of the paper
-write it out in your neatest handwriting!. That way, you pay attention to what you're writing and it sticks in your mind
-it helps me to hear the monologue- record yourself saying it on a tape player or garage band and even if it's just playing in the background, it will stick with you
-put a rhythm to it!. Not necessarily iambic pentameter, any rhythm or 'way of saying it' helpsWww@QuestionHome@Com
