Question: Do you have to pay to make it on Broadway!?
Other then living expenses of course!. I recently starred in a community theater production of a play here and a guy came to my job saying he liked me in it and he was a Broadway agent and all I had to do was pay him $500 and he would start trying to get me audtions!. Is this how it works with agents!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

You've met a con artist!.

Agents are paid only when you are paid for your work!. You do not give them money to try to get you auditions!.

also, there is no such thing as a "Broadway agent!." Theatrical agents are not employees of any Broadway producer -- they are employees of their clients [the actors they represent]!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Kind of!. I would be very suspicious of this guy!. If he contacts you again, ask for a business card and do some research on his company!. If he doesn't have any info, then steer clear!. It's true that you have to pay agencies to work for you, but a lot of it is commission-based!. Plus, most Broadway shows (and therefore auditions) require you to be a part of the actors equity union!. There is no quick and easy road to Broadway, so be very careful, and do not give him any money until you investigate further!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You should NEVER pay agents before you have a job!. They take 10% of whatever pay you get!. NEVER pay upfront!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
