That depends greatly on which show it is - not only depending on if you need to be a triple threat or not, but to see whether or not you simply "fit the part!." For each audition, research the show ahead of time, be logical and figure out which parts you would be suited for, and try to audition specifically for those parts!. Even if you do this, you may be cast as someone else (ex: I auditioned for Ruth in Pirates of Penzance because I thought my looks were more suited for her, but was cast as Mabel!)!.

It usually helps if the auditioners know you and have worked with you before!. If they don't, display as much outgoing-ness, charm, and personality as you can! Demonstrate that you would be a joy and easy to work with!. And, of course, you'll need loads of luck and talent!Www@QuestionHome@Com

The "triple threat" comment is true although it depends on the musical!. Many Sondheim musicals don't require extensive dancing while other roles can be partially spoken / sung, like Rex Harrison in My Fair Lady!. A role in Cats requires practically no acting skills at all beyond the ability to mimic a cat, but you better be able to dance like crazy! Don Quixote requires very little formal dance training!. But roles like Harold Hill in The Music Man or PT Barnum in Barnum require all threeWww@QuestionHome@Com
