Question: What's the difference between an Actor & a Character Actor !? Don't they both play characters !?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
A character actor is a kind of "specialist" in the field!. They usually do not play the lead in a production, and they are not/do not have to be as physically attractive as those who usually play leading men and leading ladies!. Instead, they play the unique, featured characters!. As a result, they are not "typecast" in the same types of roles over and over!. Great skill is required to be a character actor!.

If I had to give some examples, I would have to say that people like Kathy Bates could be considered character actors!. At one time, Anthony Hopkins fell into this category, but he has become a great leading man in his own right!. Alan Rickman, who plays Severus Snape in the "Harry Potter" films, is a great character actor!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

exactly, there is no difference all actors who are effective do the same thing!. there is also no such thing as a difference between a 'personality' actor and a character actor!. these are artificial terms made up by snooty stage actors who look down on film actors and who think acting is this great art form!.
