You could always use "the poor man's copyright!." Just print out a hard copy and mail it to yourself in a manila envelope!. The postmark will be your "copyright date!." So if ever you need to prove its authenticity simply produce the envelope!.

It is NEVER advised to use an online copyright company!. Many of them are frauds out to steal your work or pressgang you for information they can sell to other companies and more likely than not they aren't even authentically copyrighted!.

It is probably a better idea to contact a notary public near you or to look over this website http://www!.cb-cda!.gc!.ca/info/act-e!.html for more information on copyrights!. You should probably have your work copyrighted officially (although it may cost more, if you have a work of merit it is your best bet)!.

AND keep in mind (especially with something like a screenplay) that a COPYRIGHT and PERFORMING RIGHTS are not always necessarily the same thing!

At any rate, you should get your work copyrighted through the Canadia Intelectual Properties Office (CIPO)!. You will need to fill out a form (like this one http://strategis!.ic!.gc!.ca/sc_mrksv/cipo/!.!.!. ) and there is a cost (something around $65) but it is entirely worth it to protect your work (especially if it's really good)!.
