Question: Wicked the Musical Movie!?!!?
I just read on Wikipedia that Gregory Maguire stated there will be a film adaptation of Wicked, and that it would be based on the musical!!! I'm so excited, I loved seeing Wicked on Broadway!. The bad news is that the film won't be for another four or five years!. I was just wondering if anyone else has heard about this, and what are your thoughts on the movie!? I hope they use the original cast!.!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

But don't believe everything that you read on Wikipedia!. People can start rumors going on there, and if it is true, I hope that whoever does the casting for the movie does a better job, then the person that did the casting for Mamma Mia, the film version!. It would be great if they could get anybody for the oringal cast, or even if they could get Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel, or either or, since I know that they both have starred in movies!. Carole Shelley I know has done some movies to!. But 4 or 5 years, that is pretty long for them to wait to bring it out, and maybe even Wicked is better off to be a play on a stage, then a movie, and because you just can't keep everything in a movie, plus who knows thee could be people that may have never seen the play!. And might end up seeing it for the first time!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The Wicked movie is currently scheduled for 2014!. From interviews with Gregory Maguire:

According to Maguire, there are plans to bring out a film version of “Wicked” in the year 2014!. “That’s the 10-year anniversary of its Broadway debut,” he said, “which is exactly what happened when the play ‘Chicago’ came out as a film a few years ago!. Since ‘Wicked’ is breaking attendance records all over the world, there’s no need to rush a film out now!.”

Q: What was your reaction when they first talked to you about your novel Wicked! being made into a musical!? Has anyone ever asked you about it being made into a film!?

GM: Within 10 days of the book's publication in the US, I started to get film offers!. I had three and a half years' worth of film scripts, each one of which was worse than the one before!

When that interest began to erode (Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings hadn't come out yet) and the notion of a Broadway play came up instead, really in my heart of hearts I just thought [*singing and leaping from his chair*] 'Broadway!'!. What was not to love about it!?

There will eventually be a film of Wicked! the musical but probably not for four or five years!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
