What are the factors involved in casting; physical or personal similarity to character, demonstrated ability to play the role, or is it totally up to the director's interpretation of the play!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

All of the above!. It also depends on where you are and if you're auditioning for film/tv or stage!. Ideally, a director would like to cast an actor who can play the role AND fits his vision of what the character looks like!. OR an actor comes in who may not look exactly as he would like, but does such a great job that the director adjusts his vision!.

In community theatre, it's unfortunate that I've seen directors cast for type over talent, which makes for some very bad performances!.

So, ultimately, it's all up to the director and how many people audition!. If you're thinking of auditioning for something that you think is against your type, if it's open, just go for it anyway!. You never know!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

it depends on the director!.!.!.
sometimes during the audtion it has to do with the persons ability to portray that character!.!.!.other aspects in casting are whether a person comes prepared, is paying attention, not distracted, is on time, and if they have been cast before, whether or not they were responsible the last timeWww@QuestionHome@Com

It's all of those things because a director needs to have somebody who fits there description of the character and they also have to be able to act as the character too!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
