Question: What should I do!? (this is important)!?
Yesterday i had an interview with John Robert Powers acting and modeling school!. After the interview they said they would love to have me in their program!. It would last for six months!. I would learn SO MUCH but it is really really really expensive!. To give you an idea I am talking over $1500!. And the place where the lessons are is an hours drive from my house!. The lessons themselves last for four hours!. I am very serious about modeling and acting though!. This is my chosen career path!.
What should I do!? Should I do it!? Is it to big a commitment!? Please tell me your opinions because I have to make a decision by Wednesday!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The truth is, they will take *anyone* and *everyone* As long as they can get money out of them!.

People have commented on JRP, and the amount of Money spent on classes and getting NO results!. No booking!. No Nothing!.

JRP tends to make it sounds like that once you have their training and took all their classes and their recommanded photographers, you'll be ready to become a supermodel or awared winning actress!.!.!. but fact is, it takes time!. It takes time to become a seasoned actor!.

I would strongly recommand you to take acting classes either at your school (Theater classes, or Drama Club)!. Get involved!. If your school doesn't offer that, see if there are local Theatre Groups/Workshops that you can attend!. (You can either find them in newspapers or online)!. You can't call yourself an actress if you are not trained in the craft of Acting, right!?

It is at your classes or workshops, that you will learn more about the business in acting!. Develope your own network, or even, from your classmates, you'd get a referral to see their talent agents!. - But do as much work as you can - audition for location theatre productions, student films, indie films!.!.!. you name it!. This will help you develope a good actor resume!.

When you attend an audition (or submitting to a casting call), you will need the following:

1) Resume
2) Headshot
3) Talent Agent

For headshots - I would just suggest you to find a friend, with a good camera and take a neutral photo of you from the shoulder up!. (Do not spend $500+ for professional photos, unless you're already in the Union and have done a bunch legit works) As a starting actor, a good quality headshot is enough!. (My first headshot is the one I took of myself in the bathroom - and I landed a national commercial) Once you are signed with a talent agent, he/she will recommand a reasonable priced photographer to you!. (But make sure you do a research on the agent and the photographer first!. check out http://www!.easybackgroundcheck!.com)

To find an agent - well, google for them, check out local newspapers!.!.!. The world of mouth is the best way!. My first agent that I freelance with was though referral from another actor while we were on a filmset as background extras!! Remember, network, network, network!!

Once you have a good resume, a decent headshot, and a talent agent (or manager) to represent - then that's where you tell your agent/manager to look out for any breakdowns or auditions that you'd be great for!.

Good Luck!.

I personally don't think it's a lot of money!. This is to further your acting/modeling career!. You gotta spend money to make money!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Follow your heart!.!.!.if its really what you would like to do then you should!. Good luck :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

its not much an hour!.!.the way
the rest i dont know what to say:)
ask ur parentsWww@QuestionHome@Com

You don't mention if you are of legal age!. If not, then
YOU cannot enter into a contract with JRP, your parents will need to do that for you!. No one can tell
you what you should do!. If this is -as you say - your chosen career path, why are you polling us!? You sound as though you may have doubts!. And I have to tell you something!. Like all modeling and acting schools, JRP needs to make money!. Nothing against them, but most of these schools tell you that they REALLY want you in the program (well, of course they do because without you and others like you they wouldn't make any money)!. Do not believe that just because they tell you they want you in their program that this is an open doorway to the world of modeling and acting!. Modeling and acting are two distinctly different professions!. To succeed in either (especially acting) you need connections (knowing the right people in the industry), the right look, talent, drive, a VERY tough shell and the ability and confidence to make your own decisions! You need all of these things in abundance! A little $1500 modeling/acting school stint is NOT going to open the doors you think they will!. Personally, if you've got "it" you've got "it," and no school can give "it" to you!. I would rethink this and ask yourself what it is you REALLY want to do!? Model!? Act!? The chances of you making it in either profession are slim to none at all!. Remember, you need to know the right people and be able to take the psychological punishment that both professions offer in abundance! Good luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com

After just briefly looking over the program, I'd say that at first glance (with no further research mind you!) that it looks to be pretty decent program!. The curriculum has a lot of good courses on it!. Though I am always cautious of "acting/modeling schools" (see the answers above & below me, as I agree)!.

The prices for things like dance & singing classes range from $150- 400 for a six-eight week course!. So think about that when you look at the cost!.
I know for myself, I've spent $350 on a specialty workshop that last a weekend!. And I have definitely spent over $1500 on workshops in the past year!.

Since this is your parents money and you'll be commuting in your parents car with their gas, make sure you talk it over with them!.

As an alternative, you may want to look at taking several different classes that equal $1500!. Try the colleges or universities in your area!. That way you'll get intensive training in many fields (with the downside of spending more time/having more classes) verses a taste of everything (from one source)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Many people who have taken classes from Powers consider them a scam, especially in the acting area!. Powers is not an agent and will not get you any work!. But if you want to learn how to model, this may be ok!. Do a web search for John Robert Powers and see if you can find some reports on them!. also call your local BBB and ask if there have been any complaints about them!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

My advice to you is to find a reputable performing arts school in your area!. JRP is not such a school!. I know first hand that the quality of the training you get from JRP is not even close to the quality of training from a school that is designed for this purpose!. In my area, schools charge less than $100/month for acting AND modeling classes and give you opportunities to be seen by professionals!. Look around and see what you can find!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Hi, John Robert Powers is a scam, DON'T do it! If you want to get into acting/modeling, find a legit program and get enrolled!. Stay away from Barbizon too because they're scammy as well!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

YOu DO NOT want to be apart of JRP!!!! It will look better on your resume if you have nothing then to put them down!. They Ask WAY to much and accept anyone! DO NOT DO IT!!!!Www@QuestionHome@Com
