umm for musicals that are on right now i like Spamalot and Avenue Q but thats because I like to laugh and both those shows will do it. I have seen both the shows and are excellent. A show I haven't seen but want to is Young Frankenstein. Don't know much about operas though so can't help u there.

The Phantom of the Opera is very good. I memorized the song i first time i saw it. It's enchanting

Well, if you like both musicals and opera, I might suggest Phantom of the Opera. =D
Seriously, I hear that's a good show to see. I hear a lot about Wicked as well. I'd also recommend the Les Miserables revivial, which I saw and loved.
I don't know much about the opera in the area though.

Les Miserables definitely.I loved it!Tosca and Carmen are good choices for opera.

I saw Sunday in the Park With George last week, and it is AMAZING. It's sad, witty, funny, and moving. {It's just brilliant}

The Phantom of the Opera is another great show.
