Position:Home>Theater & Acting> What should i sing for a 'wizard of oz' audition?

Question:I'm 15 and going for the part of Dorothy. We cant sing something from the show. I was thinking about 'Castle on a cloud' from Les mes. It has that youthful-wishing feel that i think 'Somewhere over the rainbow' has. If you have any better suggestions please tell me.

ITA w/Castle on a Cloud providing you can do it really well - IF it's in a comfortable range that won't trip you up and will allow you to focus on investing the wistful pathos that is such a strong part of that song's lyrics message.

For a monologue - use a portion of Emily's final speech in "Our Town" particularly the part where she becomes so impatient and saddened by the fact that people in her family don't stop and look at each other. There is such longing for what she has missed (like Dorothy) in this.

Break a leg!

Always audition a song that has a "money note" one half step LOWER than your range. Nerves at an audition choke off your air and reduce your 'comfortable' range. Great for confidence when you know you don't have to go for your top note. Many an audition has flopped by those who think they have a note they don't. If they like you they will likely ask you to sing RAINBOW, or do scales at a call back.
