Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Nervous about Highschool drama club?

Question:I really love to dance and sing...although I've never really tried acting. My best friend of 7 years and I LOVE theater!! Our original plan was to do Drama club together, and we were SO excited for it!! But, since she's moving, i'm kind of nervous about going out for the drama club. I am a shy person and i get nervous easily....and i'll be a 9th grader, and all the kids in the drama club will be older than me. I'm just soo afraid of trying out, although i really love theater!! what should i do??

I remember having some trepidation freshmen year of high school when I joined the drama club. Everyone else was a junior or senior, but they were cool because they loved the craft just as much as I did. Don't let your fears hold you back. If you have a real passion for theater, then this is only the first of many hurdles you will need to steel yourself to overcome.

overcome your fears

don't be nervous! Theatre people love other theatre people, as president of my high school's Drama Club I love meeting new thesbians! So don't worry! Those older people will love you for sure!

Im in eighth grade and eighth grade starts at the high school in my town. I am also in love with acting and singing but my friends aren't interested in that type of stuff (the preppy.popular ones =P) so I'm kinda on my own in that department. I decided to try out for the spring musical at my school. I was also nervous. I was one of the only 3 eighth graders who made it onto the cast (the other two were boys). Everyone else was older than me and I didn't know anyone. At first I was shy but after about a week I began to get more comfortable with the rest of the cast and now they are some of my best friends. Don't let your fear of making friends get in the way of doing what you love. I say go for it! Good luck!

as a director and actress and someone who was in high school a LONG time ago, i say GO FOR IT!!

i remember how nervous i was being a freshman in h.s. and how much older everyone was, but ya' know, i made friends that i still have now (this was a loooong time ago) :-)

anyway, keep in mind that as you start of in theatre, not everything has to be on stage. there's so much to do behind the scenes and maybe you could concentrate on that until you get more comfortable with the idea of being on stage.

go for it, have fun, it'll be the best thing you'll ever do!!!

Theatre people are friendly, there are slight friendly rivalries. We are a wacky people, and we love comedy in the most part. So take a deep breath, relax, and just belt it. The drama club will be a way for you to connect, as well as reach out. There is nothing to stop you but your own fear, and there is nothing to fear but fear itself. So just remember that they will be supportive if you are friendly, and attentive.
bonne chance, break a leg, you've nothing to fear.

it'll be ok. step out and go for it!! if you don't you'll regret it! drama clubs are usually like a big family so I'm sure everyone will be nice and friendly to you.
