Hermia and Helena are long-time friends, and have been since they were very little. The friendship goes awry, though, after Hermia's father demands that she wed Demetrius, who just happens to be Helena's crush. Hermia and her bf Lysander plan to elope in the next town and tell Helena about the plan; she betrays Hermia by telling Demetrius about the plan in order to get his attention. After the 2 boys fall for Helena, Hermia and Helena stop getting along and yeh.

im reading this play currently and from what i understand from my english teacher, they have a kind of love hate relationship going on. i feel like they have been friends for a while but then helena feels like shes been stabbed in the back by hermia ( even though this isnt the case at all) because demetrius lover hermia and not helena. and helena feels intense jealousy towards hermia because of it.

NO there is one part were they fight and hurt each other. like strangle and hit. shes all mad cuz the guy likes helena instead of hermia. great play u should read it.
