Position:Home>Theater & Acting> What should I expect at open auditions for extras?

Question:I am going to an open casting call for extras in a feature film tomorrow, and I want to know what to expect? Since it's for extras only, will there be any speaking parts? Will I have to read lines or anything, or do they just want to meet/see me? I won't have to have anything prepared of my own will I, like a monologue? It didn't much info, it just said open casting calls at 11, and to bring a 4 X 6 photo. What should I do to prepare? Should I just wear regular clothing? Thanks!

Extras are cast for how they look, not what they say. They do not have speaking roles; that's why they're called extras.

Just wear your regular clothing, be yourself.

All you'll do is fill out a form, then they'll take your picture. They may talk with you a bit.

usually a lot of people in one big room all sitting around looking at each other,, usually you will get a questionaire that asks some pretty private stuff like would you consider being nude, or topless, (yes really), you hand that in and they either call on you or at the end thank everyone for coming, and pick a select few... good luck

prepare a monolouge just in case, and just be prepared to read lines, and always be polite. Wear comfortabe, presenteable clothing in case you have to do movement excersises, and be ready for inprovisations!!! they might just want to meet and greet, but just be prepared!

Where do those people get their misinformation? Take a pen to fill out the application form. YOu don't prepare anything as extras are not actors. They are scenery.. They will just look at you and see if you are what they want for the background, that is all. Yep, wear your everyday clothing. Doc

Theater doc and tonic are right. Keep your wits about you as it is common to advertise an open call and get pitched for a scam. Be careful.
