It really depends on the photographer. Top LA photographers charge can charge over $500, whereas I got my headshots taken from a local photographer at $50 that included a disc with them on it. (they are just as good). I would use google, yellow pages, or ask around until you find a photographer in your area at a reasonable price. You really don't need great photos, my brother got started with photos taken with a white-wall background. You could have them taken by a friend, but most professionals charge between $75-150 for a couple headshots in 1/2 outfits. Sometimes you can even find one looking to expand their portfolio for free! To reproduce your headshots in bulk (either in full-quality photographic reproductions or in lithos) is an additional cost and usually through another company. Most photographers do not provide reproductions as a part of their fees.

Make sure you meet with potential photographers before you schedule your shoot. Take a look at their book and especially notice the headshots of actors of your age and type to see if they really do a good job of capturing the subjects' personality and vibe.

Don't confuse spending way too much money on headshots with a guarantee of high-quality headshots that work for you. Also, don't try to save so much money that you under-spend and then end up having to re-shoot anyway.
