Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Going to first student film audition..what to expect?

Question:I guess I'm just a wee bit nervous, but with my growing training behind me I don't feel as nervous as I would be just starting out. Do they usually just do cold reads or do they also do monologues and stuff? I usually hear that they don't do monologues and just have you in cold read in front of a camera and only when they specifically ask for a monologue is when that comes into play..

Generally a student film is not-for-profit, so they aren't quite as picky about the brilliance their actors as a professional director/crew and won't have such an intense auditioning process.
I doubt you would be expected to perform a monologue without being told beforehand. Depends on who's doing the audition, though. I wouldn't get too worked up about it. You could call and check that there's no need to prepare anything. If they do ask you to recite something, be clear that you weren't asked to have anything prepared, don't lose your confidence or freak out (they are in no way "better" than you) - it may be that, as students themselves, they are as nervous about the process as you are!

As covered by the first post. I would also just ask on the day when you arrive what they are looking for.

Cold reading technique: scroll your thumb down the page as you do the lines. So you can find where you are, quickly.
