I would choose the "dogs playing poker" paintings by CM Coolidge... im sure you've seen them. google it.

Leonardo Da Vinchi/The Last Supper

Mona Lisa is a pretty famous painting, well known. :)

Yeah you could do a play about 'The story behind the Mona Lisa'. Maybe she was having a bad day, and couldn't smile. And DaVinci had a grandoise idea of making a happy painting, on a sunny day with her smiling. Instead, he changes it into a lady with no smile, and a dark background. And thinks it is terrible and will never amount to anything.

"When did you last see your father"

How about Whistler's mother you could do a scene about why she is unhappy in the picture or van gogh self portrait do it about him cutting off his ear. You could get a rubber ear from a joke shop or something.

I would avoid any paintings with nudes in them unless you have a lot of body makeup.

The Picasso with the warped watch. That's distorted and you could make it a comedy-farce satire on almost anything and relate it to time.

I would seriously take a look at the 'Edvard Munch' painting called "The Scream".

You could definately make up some theatre with the emocions shown in that painting. Also, if you do some research on this painting, you will find reviews on what people feel when looking at the painting and what inspired Munch into painting such a unique piece of artwork.

Seriously, check it out =]

John.

See the movie, The Power and the Glory.

if you base the play on the painting of theMona Lisa, you could include a scene where she is at the beauty parlour having her eyebrows shaved off!
