Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Would you go to the theatre rather than the pictures if it were more affordable?

Question:Of course i would.. And i think alot more people would aswell.

Ive seen Wicked, Les Miserables & Lord of the Rings in Westend and they where fantastic. The price however of tickets where very high, but for one off's, its worth it.

Cinema is good, but you dont feel the performance as you do in the theatre. Do you not agree?

John.

Definitely! I'd go to the theatre every night if I could!!!

no. i live in northern virginia, so if i want to see a play i have to go into dc and its such a hassle to find parking anywhere so i have to take metro and then you have to worry about finding parking since most of the lots are always full and then there is always some sort of issue once you get ON metro...

I would go if i could every night

I tend to go to the theatre a lot, anyway.......... I guess, about 6 times a year, but 4 times, so far, since xmas.

actually, the cost of a cheap theatre ticket is not much more than an expensive cinema ticket (local theatre £10...... cinema £6)

If the west end were cheaper, I would go to the major productions a lot more

Pictures every time.

Yes definately, it's so expensive to go to the theatre but so much more worth while.

Oh my goodness yes! I remember the theatre in Wales as a child and nothing is comparable to the feeling you get there. But money is a big issue, if it were made more affordable....they could make mini shows that show more frequently. A regulated sort of theatre. I would pay what I pay for a movie now, because i've cut out movies totaly with the economy the way it is. But theatre would be worth $9.00 a ticket.

Yes, would love to see Wicked, but not at $100 per ticket.

Actually, the theatre can be more affordable!

In my city, a cinema ticket costs £7, but I can get a theatre ticket for £5 (OK, it's a standby tickets bought on the day, so I'll be sat right at the back, but it's not a huge theatre so the view is fine) These are professional productions, usually touring before going to the West End, so include many famous names!

Ask your local theatres about their pricing for tickets bought last minute, they can often be half price. Don't forget your local amateur theatres too, they can be a great night out for very little money!

Absolutely. I love films but theatre is such a richer experience. As well as let us not forget that you can rent a film when it comes out on DVD but how will we ever rent a a play? Can you imagine for your relaxing Friday night at home you have invited the cast of Sweeney Todd to perform in your living room? :)

It is affordable. Hull truck costs £7.50. that's not much more than a movie. Many theatres have offers on tickets at times which are less popular. Besides Theatre is much more special than cinema. The same movie can be watched by millions of different people and though it may be interpreted in different ways, the product they all see is the same. Theatre is a two way experience. Its immediacy creates a sense of sharing and urgency and in that way it can feel much more unique. It has the power to make me reconsider my perceptions and values in a very real way. Films CAN do this too, but not many have done. Those that have will remain my favourite movies for ever. But all that for £7.50 question isn't can you afford to go, but can you afford not to enrich yourself so!!

i go to the theatre more than the picture infact can't remember the last time i went to the pictures,
when i go to the theatre i was the tkts booth in leicester sq, get day seats or restricted views from the theatre or look out for offers on the internet.
i try and go at least once a fornight so i go often but it's the bloody train fare and times which get to me!! i can't get a direct train to london at the weekend go via cov which puts an extra hour on the journey and my last train is at 7.30pm!!

I'd probably go more...but I wouldn't ever give up my cinema nights!!
