Question:Help needed! Pedro Almodovar's Todo Sobre Mi Madre (All About My Mother)?
Currently studying the text listed above for Media Studies A Level Critical Research Unit, just wanted to get some feedback on the film.
Those of you that have seen it, what initially attracted you to the film? Was it the awards which it won (including an Academy Award in 1999 for Best Foreign Language film) or was it the many positive reviews which the film received? Perhaps it was recommended to you by a friend?
Have you subsequently sought out any of Almodovar's other films? Or were you a fan before?

And what aspects of 'All About My Mother' did you engage with the most? Was it the story, performances, visual style etc?

Any help/answers welcome
Thank you !

I had heard about it through the reviews. The only other Almodovar film I had seen was Matador and I had enjoyed that one as well. Since then, I have seen and admired Talk To Her, Bad Education, and Volver...

What I admired most about AAMM (and what is typical about many of his films) is his ability to capture the paradoxes in Spanish culture, particularly with regard to women. He is very sympathetic to this world but you don't get the idea that he is pandering. The performances are all electfiying.

I'm sorry i fell asleep in the begging of the story

I found this through a book I had bought called "1000 Movies you Must See." My friends and I sat down with it and put the first ten shows we wanted to see in our Netflix Que. I got it within two day and watched it three times within two days (I have trouble sleeping).

I wasn't a fan before of Almodovar's and had only just heard of it through the book I had recently bought but I've never been so happy with a choice of movie. It was phenominal! I don't know Spanish at all but that didn't really hurt the movie at all. I have sought out other Almodovar's other films such as "Talk to Her" and "High Heals." Both of which I was not let down by at all, nor any other of the films of his.

I think I liked the characters and performers the most out of all the aspects of the movie. But the story sure got my teary eyed. It's just one of those movies...
