What you're looking for is Broadway bootlegs. They're {illegally} taped shows by people in the audience.

sometimes have some.

Spamalot and Ave Q are way too recent to release anything on film yet. If everyone could own a comparatively inexpensive version for their home, why spend money to see the show on B'way? That's why it takes so long for any hit B'way show to be filmed as a movie. 5 years from closing is usually standard. Also some stage to film transfers don't work, so many productions are never filmed.
Here are some B'way shows that you can find on dvd:
Sweeney Todd (George Hearn & Angela Lansbury)
Pippin (William Katt & Chita Rivera)
Passions (Original Cast)
Sunday in the Park (Original Cast)
Cats
Into the Woods (Original Cast)
Kiss Me Kate (Revival Cast - Brian Stokes Mitchell & Marin
Mazzie)
Also check out Bette Midler in Gypsy. It was a made for tv movie, but very faithful to the stage production.

those are the best shows everrrr!
