Give yourself a history. Sit down and answer some questions about yourself -- write them down -- so that if anyone ever asks, you know. It may never come up in the script, but knowing your character's favorite color or food is important to "fleshing out" the chracter. Also, in addition to your own ines, listen to what others say about you but consider the source. Is some of what's said stemming from jealousy or rivalry? Or is it being said by your loving wife or husband? Finally, give yourself a brief history of what has happened to you to get you to the place you're in before the movie starts.
