Cosette the lead in Les Mis?

Question:Is she the the lead female character? Because I just got that part in my school musical, and I know there are a few big female parts, but what is the rank of Cosette?

yes she pretty much is the main female character congratulations on the part!

the other main female parts are
Fantine she is Cosette's mother and she dies when Cosette is a child
Eponine is Cosette's main rival, she is the daughter of the people Fantine left Cosette in the care of
Madame Thenadier is Eponine's mother she is not a nice person she and Thenadier run the Inn where Cosette is basically a slave.

there's 2 parts of Cosette actually
there's young Cosette and she lives with the Thenadiers until she is rescued by Jean Valjean who promised Fantine he would take care of Cosette for her and get her away from the Thenadiers'
and then there's Cosette as a teenager/young woman she lives with Jean Valjean who she believes is her father she falls for a student named Marius

Les Mis is an awesome show I've seen it twice and there are a lot of great songs in it if you want more information on Cosette's character I've found some sites listed below
I strongly recommend that you try reading even just a bit of Victor Hugo's novel that the show is based on.

Cosette is a major character. Her "rank" is debatable, but I'd say she's #2 after Eponine. Fontine, Cosette's mom, would be #3.

No, Valjean and Javert are the leads. She is a supporting part, there aren't any female leads. In terms of female rank, she I would put her after Fantine and Eponine and about the same level as Mme Thernardier (or maybe higher, I guess that would be open to interpretation).

She doesn't have her own song, but she has some pretty duets with other characters. The character itself is important (not instrumental, but definitely plays a part) to the overall story that follows Valjean over..how many years? 20? He adopts Cosette when she's little (Young Cosette sings Castle on a Cloud) and then older Cosette appears in Act 2 and falls in love with Marius. You will probably get to play a prostitute, etc in Act 1, which should be fun.
