My last name for showbiz?

When I was starting out my agent wanted me to change my name because it's Italian and most casting directors would ergo think I was an ethnic - despite my head shot which looks like an upper class wasp. I didn't want to change my name. And it has been totally frustrating during my career. Especially commercially. They hear an Italian name and assume I do Italians. I do, but rarely. 90% of the work one commercial casting director sent me out for was Italians. And I'm not good at doing Italians.

Agents, casting directors, directors and producers (especially in movies) have very little imagination. They will automatically assume that I'm ethnic and negate me for an audition for a non-ethnic. EVEN WHEN THEY'RE LOOKING AT YOUR HEAD SHOT. It takes a long time to establish who you are if you have an ethnic-sounding name. Your name sounds German or Slovakian to me. Which makes me think you might be blonde with an accent. Either that's right, or totally off the mark. See what I mean?

If you ARE an ethnic type - then keep it. Al Pacino is what he is. He can't pretend to be other. But if you want to have a wide ranging career that spans many ethnicities - yes, I say change your last name. If I had it to do all over again - I'd change mine.

I think your name is fine. I don't think taking you first and last name combined, since I'm assuming its Alice from your name, it won't really go good. Alice Pavice or Alice Allich? I think your last name is fine. Maybe your agent has an idea?

You could have the greatest name in the world, but if your acting sucks, it means nothing. Your name isn't gonna help you break into the acting world, so don't rely on that. -_- Work on your acting skills.

Your last name is who you are. And what makes you unique among the actors out there. :)
People will love you for who you are, not how your name sounds.
